UCM to Open New Recreation and Wellness Center March 2011

Date:
02/19/2010
Construction of a new state-of-the-art recreation and wellness center at the University of Central Missouri is well underway. The target opening date for the center is set for March 2011, and reservations are now being accepted for the new facility for summer 2011. The wellness center will greatly enhance the amenities currently offered at UCM and more than double the gymnasium space available for use at the university.
The 69,000-square-foot facility will include three multi-use courts that will be available to camps and conferences during the summer months. Also available will be three multi-use courts at the attached newly renovated Morrow-Garrison building. UCM plans to offer discounts to groups for the reservation of all six courts.
Included in the future wellness center is a two-story climbing wall, which was installed shortly before the first of the year. The climbing wall adds a team-building opportunity that was never before offered at UCM. Some of the other amenities soon to be available to UCM visitors include an indoor walking track, four fitness areas with a variety of equipment and two aerobics areas. The indoor fitness areas at UCM are not the only spaces receiving a facelift. Outside, the tennis courts at the university are also being re-built and will be fully lit with six half-court basketball lines. The football field behind Diemer Residence Hall will have artificial turf installed as well as lighting, which will allow for use in a variety of weather conditions.
Remember to ask about the new Student Recreation and Wellness Center when making your next reservation at the University of Central Missouri.
